Classes in Framingham!

Now THREE classes in Framingham!

The descriptions and formats have changed. Please read carefully.

Performing Arts Center of Metrowest

Saturday mornings: 16-week Session (paid in two installments) begins September 18th (no class 10/9, 11/27, 12/25, 1/1)

9:30-10:30AM: Technique: This class is designed for students who have already taken belly dance classes (or who are concurrently enrolled in the Thursday night class if you are a beginner). This class will cover intermediate steps and movements, with an emphasis on drilling and using finger cymbals.

10:30-11:30AM: Performance Skills: Even if you are not looking to be a performer, this class will give you confidence and help you break out of any feelings of nervousness or limitations when you dance. This class is also designed for students who have had prior belly dance experience, and who would like to learn performance skills to build self-confidence and to learn more about improvisation and the various parts of a belly dance routine. If you want to take only this class without the 9:30 class you MUST have permission of the instructor.

*************************************************************************

Thursdays at 6:30PM beginning September 16th

16 weeks (paid in two installments) (No classes 11/25, 12/23, 12/30)

Beginner Belly Dance

NO PRIOR BELLY DANCE EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.  Whether you are a beginner looking to learn basic belly dance steps, a person looking for a different and interesting activity, or a current belly dance student looking for more drilling and technique, this is the class for you!  (All beginners are directed to this class: beginners may not take the Saturday classes unless you are also a student in this class.)

Regarding Payment: The Performing Arts Center will give you $20 off your second class if you take any two classes, and I will give you a rebate of $10 if you take all three classes.

Bellydancing is an exciting dance for women (and teens) of any age or shape, providing a great workout which improves muscle tone and flexibility, without the usual drudgery and exhertion of traditional exercise classes. We will have fun with the quick sharp movements of hip shimmies and will also learn slow fluid and flowing hand and body movements, all handed down from generation to generation and from ancient times to the present. You will find an increasing body awareness and self-confidence through participating in any of these classes.

For the Saturday morning classes, instructor will provide veils for the lovely veil dances, but requests that the student be prepared to purchase her own finger cymbals (available from the instructor for $25 at the first class) to get the full advantage of this class (do not buy your finger cymbals elsewhere - they usually will be of poor quality). Wear comfortable clothing that provides a smooth line, such as tank tops, leggings, bike shorts, sports bras, etc. It is best that you not wear loose shapeless clothing such as "sweats." For the Thursday class I prefer that you do not wear sneakers unless you have foot/knee/back problems that require you to have support.

The instructor's book "Language of the Dance" ($20) and a classroom music CD ($15) are also available for purchase (when purchased together it is $30).

You must register through the Performing Arts Center of Metrowest by visiting their website or calling 508-875-5554. Even though you are registering directly through the PAC, if you let me know you are signing up for those classes I will add you to my mailing list for those sessions.

Private Classes in Framingham: The current rate is $50 per 1-hour lesson. There is a minimum of two hours paid in advance.
